Haunted Starbucks – Waiter, There’s Someone In My Coffee!
The next time you’re enjoying a cup of coffee at your local Starbucks, look closely into that cup… Do you see anyone looking back at you?
Back in the early 1990′s, when I drank my morning coffee light and sweet, I had discovered that when I poured the cream into the coffee, it would disappear beneath the surface of the coffee and then a moment later explode back to the surface with all sorts of interesting shapes. I often thought of photographing this, but it took me until 2005 to follow through on it.
Since then, I have found all sorts of odd things in the cream patterns – interesting shapes, animals, people, even Bert Lahr, The Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz! The only retouching I do to the photos is – grain smoothing, sharpness, color balancing, and occassional removal of a distracting blemish or bubble.
I guess you could say that Starbucks beans produce a spirited cup of coffee!
